Family planning is the set of practices that can be used by a woman, a man or a pair of potential parents, basically oriented to the control of reproduction through the use of contraceptive methods in the practice of sex.
Control or family planning may aim to generate offspring or not and if so, decide on the number, timing and the social, economic and personal where you want them.
Also included within the family planning sexuality education, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, counseling before conception, during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as treatment of infertility, using techniquesassisted reproduction such as IVF.
Family planning services are a set of services offered by specialist health professionals, including educational activities and practices, preventive medical and social allow individuals, including minors, to determine freely the number and spacing of their children and select the most appropriate to their circumstances.
Family planning is sometimes used as a synonym for birth control. In this sense, family planning medical services provide information about contraceptive methods and provide specialized medical care to achieve desired birth spacing and to avoid unwanted pregnancies.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has established recommendations regarding the medical criteria for choosing to use one or another method. The criteria have been developed by WHO together with groups, organizations and individuals from all continents. These criteria aim to ensure that women and men around the world have access to family planning services and high quality insurance.
